Arlene Marie Smith (nee Campbell)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arlene Marie Smith, who left us peacefully in the presence of family at the Chinook Care Center on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 95 (29 days before her 96th birthday).

Arlene is survived by her loving family; daughters Diane Anderson (Murray) and Darlene Hedin (Ken); grandchildren, Andrew “Drew” Smith (Lisa), Stephen Smith (Michelle), Brady Anderson (Jill), Susan Jorgensen (Bryan), Lauren Anderson (Denver), Kathy Hedin (Jason), Shelley Hedin (John); plus 17 cherished great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and their families and many dear friends. Arlene touched many lives and will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile, friendly manner, and unwavering optimism.

She was predeceased by her husband Frederick (Fred), her son Frederick (Rick), her parents Ralph and Laura Campbell, and her siblings Leo Campbell, William (Bill) Campbell and Connie Shaw.

She loved and participated in many sports and activities including skating and baseball as a young girl and bowling and golfing with large groups of friends as an adult. She loved playing card games (which she routinely won), bingo and any social gathering with friends and family. Arlene was very skilled and knowledgeable in gardening and in many fabric arts (especially sewing, knitting, needlepoint, rug hooking) and loved to paint in her later years. Arlene generously shared her talents by providing family and friends with treasured items that she made for them. However, her unconditional love and support for her family and her friends were her greatest legacy to all.

Family and friends are invited to share in a Celebration of Life for Arlene at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W. Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) Monday, September 09, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
