Arthena Edna Fleming

November 19, 1937 – December 21, 2015

Arthena passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2015 in Calgary, AB. Arthena was the third child of six born to Yorke and Edna Armstrong on the family farm seven miles out of Perth, Ontario. In 1953, the family moved to Calgary where she met her older brother Arthur’s best friend, Larry Fleming, and they were married October 8, 1955. She was predeceased by Larry on August 14, 2015 after almost 60 years of marriage. She is survived by adored sons Robbie (Pauline) and Randy (Diane) Fleming; six cherished grandchildren Stephanie (Michael) Sokolowski, Alana, Zane, Aaron, Jordy and Lanny Fleming; sister Marion (Ron) Dick; brothers Arthur (Linde) Armstrong and Gordon (Mirka) Armstrong; brothers-in-law Keith Wilson, Jim (Myrna), Peter (Maureen) and Eldon Fleming; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Arthena worked with Larry at Eskimo Refrigeration from 1965 to 2015. Her family was her first priority and blessing in life. For the past 48 years she loved to curl at the Calgary Winter Club. Another love was travel; she had been to all seven continents, and enjoyed many family vacations abroad. The family thanks Dr. Louw, Faye Shail, all the nurses and staff at Agape Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. A Celebration of Arthena’s Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., with the Reverend Kyle Norman officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made directly to The Salvation Army Agape Hospice, 1302 8 Ave. N.W., Calgary, T2N 1B8 or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation for Lymphoma Research, 1331 29 St N.W., Calgary, T2N 4N2.
