Barb was born on January 27, 1934, in Wallington, Surrey, England. She lived there through the traumatic events of World War II before moving with her family to Vancouver in 1950. After marrying Jim in 1955, they lived in Vancouver and Montreal before settling in Peterborough, where they raised their family. After Jim’s passing and having lived in Peterborough for more than 50 years, Barb moved to Parksville in 2012, and later to Calgary in 2021, residing at The Manor at Garrison Woods to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Barb lived a vibrant life filled with many passions and interests. An excellent tennis player, runner, canoeist, and hiker, she also nurtured a lifelong love of writing, publishing two books in recent years. Her command of several languages and her sharp mind were evident in her effortless mastery of cryptic crossword puzzles. She also gave generously of her time to countless organizations and causes in Peterborough, including the tennis and badminton clubs, the Peterborough Family Y, and Trent University.
During her time at the Manor, Barb greatly enjoyed her daily visits with “the Ladies” where they discussed and debated the diverse issues and controversies of the day.
On Barb’s behalf, her family is deeply grateful to the Manor staff, the Home Care nurses who supported her at the Manor, and the medical team who assisted her in her final days at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.
A private celebration of life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Calgary on Saturday, January 31st, 2026. Interment will follow in the coming months at Little Lake Cemetery in Peterborough where Barb will be reunited with Jim.
In her memory, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service) would be appreciated by her family.
