Born April 24, 1922 in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Basil Lawrence Bell passed away peacefully at home with family present on June 27, 2012. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 62 years, Bettie; his children, Dr. Gerald (Paula) Bell, George (Paula), Deborah (Ricky) and Ricky (Laurel); his grandchildren Monica, Morgan, Brent, Kyle, Sydney, Hayden and Madysen; great grandchildren Calvin, Andrew and Oscar.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Jean; sister Connie and brother George.
Basil served in the Canadian Armed Forces PPCLI Division. After serving his country in WWII, he came back to Fredericton, New Brunswick and met his wife Bettie. They had four children, twins Gerald and George, Deborah, and Ricky. They were posted to one army base after another because this was the army life. He always knew he wanted to retire out west in Calgary. That dream came true after serving 35 years in the Army Medical Corps.
Basil enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing, watching the garden grow, camping and sports. He was his grandsons #1 supporter with their sports. Basil was a proud man who spoke very little but got his point across. He was so proud of all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s accomplishments.
As Basil would always say “it’s a lovely day!”
