Marlene was born and raised in Calgary where she resided all of her life. She was involved in the ''Big Sisters" program at the age of 14. A highlight in Marlene's life was when she met and shook hands in 1953 with Princess Elizabeth II who of course is now the Queen. Marlene finished her schooling at Western Canada High School after which she met and married Archie in 1956. Together they had four children. In the early years Marlene was a switchboard operator for a company called "Alberta Government Telephones" or "Telus" as we know it today. After a break from her career while raising her family, she then returned to "Telus" where she continued an 18 year stint. Marlene enjoyed camping in the mountains, photography and country music. In the last few years she knit scarves and donated them to the Mustard Seed.
Marlene is survived by her children; Lori (Jack), Raymond, David, Linda (Robin), grandchildren; Ryan (Gabriela), Paul (Stephanie), Kent (Tammy), Laci (Garrett), Russell (Renee), Crystal (Wayne) and her great grandchildren, Jax, Penelope, Hunter, Emmett, Parker and Jacob. She is also survived by her sisters Jean MacPhee, Lynne Haycock and Margaret Myall.
A Memorial Reception will be held to Celebrate Marlene’s Life at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
