April 7, 1928 – April 23, 2011
Bob Milne passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on April 23, 2011 at the age of 83 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Peter Milne, his daughter Marilyn, son-in-law Lorne Brack, his grandsons Dustin and Travis, their mom Debra Milne, his granddaughters Katharine (Liam) and Sarah Brack and his special friend Janet Booth. Bob was predeceased by his wife Doreen in 1989 and his sister Lorna Moffat in 2000. Bob was born and raised in Calgary, attending Stanley Jones, Balmoral and Crescent Heights High School. He graduated from SAIT in Industrial Electronics and began work at the Hartell Oil refinery in 1946. This was the start of a 40 year career in the oil industry taking Bob and Doreen from Calgary to Winnipeg, Saskatoon and back to Calgary upon their retirement. Bob worked for Gas and Oil Products, Anglo American, Royalite, Gulf and Petro Canada as each company continued to be bought out by a larger one. Each move was an adventure and they made many lifelong friends along the way. Bob belonged to the Masonic Lodge (Calgary 23), was a founding member of the Tin Lizzie Corp (Al Azhar Shrine), was a past president of the Calgary Y’s Men’s club (helping to build the original Camp Chief Hector), the Army and Navy club and enjoyed hiking and golfing with the 5th Dimension Outdoor Club. Most importantly Bob was a loving dad, grandpa and a friend to many. He was always willing to lend a hand, could fix or build anything and could be counted on to find the humour in any situation. Bob was a Big Man with a Big Heart who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Many thanks to the nurses and staff of the Edgemont Retirement Home for their compassionate care. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.
