It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brenda Wing-Kuen Tam (née Chin), beloved wife of James Tam of Calgary, Alberta. Brenda passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, at the age of 74, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished sister and aunt, a beloved daughter, and a loyal friend.
Born in Toisan (台山), China, Brenda spent her early years in Hong Kong before immigrating to Canada. She first settled in Oyen, Alberta, where her elder sister Jenny and her family lived, and later moved to Fort Saskatchewan to reunite with her parents and younger siblings. The family eventually relocated to Calgary, where Brenda met her husband James. Their relationship blossomed in Calgary, leading to marriage and the joy of welcoming two children: daughter Melissa and son Stephen.
Brenda pursued further studies at SAIT and began her professional career as an audit clerk with the City of Calgary’s Utilities Customer Accounts Division. She later joined ENMAX, where she worked until her retirement.
In retirement, Brenda embraced new passions and cherished time with loved ones. She took up Chinese watercolour painting, enjoyed regular lunch dates with her husband, went mall walking with her siblings, visited her parents, nieces, and nephews, and delighted in dining with friends. Brenda and her husband also loved strolling through the Calgary Zoo, taking day trips into the Rocky Mountains, and, most of all, travelling with their children to explore new cities and countries together.
Known for her patience and her warm, caring nature, Brenda will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She embodied kindness, respect, quiet strength, resilience, love, and unwavering devotion to her family. Brenda is survived by her husband, James; her children, Melissa and Stephen; and her siblings Linda Chu (Michael), Betty Mah (Ted), Andy Chin, and George Chin (Kam), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Wayne (Wing Teung) and Yock Ying, as well as her sister, Jenny Mah (survived by Joe).
