BRUCE was born in Edmonton, Alberta, raised in Whitecourt, and attended college in Camrose. Throughout Bruce's working career, he was bookkeeper, computer programmer, entrepreneur, and IT support. He worked full time until the day he passed away, at age of 77. Bruce passed away on his first day of retirement from his 19 years as 'IT Business Analyst' with Brewers Distributor Ltd.
He was always physically active, went for a walk every morning, and until COVID, he played tennis and racquetball with his buddies on a regular basis. Bruce was quite fit and very competitive. He liked convertibles and loved music - mostly country. He appreciated a nice glass of wine at the end of a day, and watching sports on TV. Bruce had a very generous heart and was always available to help others. Although at times we were annoyed by his many (sometimes controversial) email forwards, we are now missing them very much. The absence of his early morning communications leaves us all feeling that void.
Bruce was predeceased by his mom (Erna), his dad (Gordon), and his oldest daughter, Dana. He is survived by his son Sean Brown, grandchildren Deanna & Kyle; daughter Bobbi Jo Brown, granddaughter Taylor; and granddaughter Katie; his siblings, Darlene Brown (Steve Boser) of Calgary; Doug Brown (Barb) of Whitecourt; Brenda Brown of Edmonton; and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
GAYL was born in Eston, Saskatchewan, and grew up in nearby Plato. At 16 she moved to Whitecourt for work, and where she met Bruce. Gayl worked as a telephone operator, then as Medical Receptionist for the local doctor's office. Gayl and Bruce were married in the summer of 1964 and resided in Whitecourt for a few years before moving to Calgary. Prior to making Calgary their permanent residence (in 1976), they also lived in Ottawa & Edmonton.
Gayl was a very accomplished typist at 175 wpm. She enjoyed a cold beer in the summer, 'The Oldies' music, and could play the drums (a talent she acquired from her dad). She loved to read magazines and always knew the latest gossip from Hollywood. Gayl was an amazing cook and a welcoming host; she was nurturing and had a kind heart.
Gayl was predeceased by her mom Velma, her dad Robert, brother Dennis (Terri); and her oldest daughter, Dana. She is survived by her son Sean Brown, grandchildren Deanna & Kyle; daughter Bobbi Jo Brown, granddaughter Taylor; granddaughter Katie; and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Cancer won their battle, but it will never take from us the many fond memories we have of these two wonderful people. We wish for them a peaceful journey, as they walk home together, uniting with the many loving family members and friends who await them. When you are in quiet slumber but hear laughter and music, or the clinking of glasses and the smell food cooking, find comfort in knowing that 'The Brown's' have completed their journey home, and are HAVING A PARTY!
Bruce and Gayl's celebration of life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on July 25 at The Malcom Hotel, 321 Spring Creek Drive, Canmore, Alberta.
