 Obituario de Carlie-Jean Godfrey
A gift from God, Carlie-Jean was born in Lacombe, Alberta on May 14, 1936. Her parents, Marguerite and John Martin were thrilled to name her after both her grandmothers; her older brothers John, Ronald, and Garth cherished her from the minute she was born. Carlie-Jean finished high school in Lacombe, then attended the University of Alberta where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce in 1957 (one of six women in her graduating class). At the U of A she met Eldon, the love of her life. They moved to Calgary and were married on June 21, 1958. Being married on the summer solstice set the stage; she was the sunshine of his life. CJ worked for Schlumberger before pausing her accounting career to have children. When Eldon opened his own accounting practice, Carlie-Jean returned to accounting as his partner. When not occupied with family or work, Carlie-Jean was an active volunteer in the community, the church, the sport world, and every endeavour in which her children were involved. She also supported Eldon’s role as an international sport leader. Carlie-Jean found the positives in every situation. She epitomized grace and dignity at all times, making everyone around her feel at ease and important. She was blessed with precious friends and was deeply loved by all who knew her. She loved travelling the world with her husband and she loved coming home with him to their family even more. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Eldon, her children Allison (Bill) Bobenic, Sandra (Clive) Smith, and Matthew (Susan), together with grand-children Alex (Erika), Josh (Nicki), Zach (Betty), Caroline, Bryna, Laurel, Lexa, Maclean, Harrison, Josephine, Wesley, and Grayson, great-grandson Orlando, brother Garth (Shaune), sisters-in-law Barb and Pearl, and many nieces and nephews. Carlie-Jean was predeceased by daughter Deborah Schijns. Carlie Jean beat cancer 18 years ago and again three years ago. Three months ago, cancer returned. Carlie-Jean’s courageous fight has been supported by the exceptional doctors, nurses, and technicians at the Foothills Hospital and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. In her last days, the compassionate and skilled support of the AHS Palliative Care – Home Care nurses and caregivers provided great comfort. Our sincere thanks to everyone involved in her care. Carlie-Jean died peacefully at home, surrounded by family and the angels – a bright new star now shines in the heavens.
