Caroll Mills

February 28, 1956 – July 13, 2012

Caroll Mills, loving wife and mother, and dear friend to many, passed away in Calgary, AB on July 13, 2012 at the age of 56 years. Caroll is survived by her husband Doug and their three daughters Lindsay, Laura and Julia; by her mother and father, Genie and Helmut Vollmer; and by her brother Perry Vollmer. She was predeceased by her Omi and Opi – Alfred and Erna Hirt. Caroll was loved so deeply by all of her family. She was born in Lethbridge, AB but moved in her first year to Calgary, where she completed her schooling and went on to work as a Dental Assistant. Caroll was an accomplished dancer, and one of the original Young Canadians, initially known as the “Calgary Kidettes”. She performed with them from 1962 until 1973. Caroll married Doug in 1977 and together they raised three wonderful daughters. The girls were the absolute centre of her universe and she knew that raising them was the most important job in the world. Caroll did so with immense love and compassion, which is reflected in each of her children, who loved her so dearly. Caroll was a voracious reader and life-long learner. Her motto was “Stay Curious”. She was also a teacher of many things – including gardening and dog training. Caroll was a “giver” and was always helping those around her – or strangers, if she thought it was the right thing to do. She cherished her friends and touched more lives than she realized. Caroll has left behind a legacy of love and caring that will be forever remembered by those who knew her. At peace, until we are together again. A celebration of Caroll’s life was held at FOSTERS GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Colorful clothing is encouraged. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Caroll’s honour may be made directly to Youville Recovery Residence for Women, www.youville.net.
