Peacefully at Agape Hospice on Monday, January 2, 2012, after a lengthy illness, Cecil Ernest Murphy of Calgary, age 89, beloved husband of the late Esther Valentine Murphy and dear father of Larry of Calgary and Rick (Ruth) of PEI. Survived by brother Lawrence Murphy (Phyllis) of Victoria, BC, Cecil was predeceased by brothers Mike and Billy and sisters Mabel Johnson and Alberta Baker. Born in 1922 in the Livingstone Valley, outside Drumheller, Cecil was a longtime resident of Calgary. He was a retired employee of Pacific Petroleums (later Petro-Canada). A WWII army veteran of the D-Day invasion, Cecil served in France, Holland and Germany in the Canadian Scottish regiment. He later reenlisted for the Korean War, where he was severely wounded. At Cecil's request there will be no Funeral or Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cecil's memory may be made directly to a charity of one's choice.
