

Chuck Belch of Calgary, AB passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 at the age of 80 years. He was born in Medicine Hat on August 12, 1935 and he grew up in numerous small towns in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Chuck would follow in his father’s footsteps, joining CP Railway as a gang worker in his late teens. His career spanned over 38 years. He retired in 1990 as Assistant Signal Supervisor. In 1959, Chuck married Alva Hudson and they lived in the Mount Pleasant district of Calgary for over 50 years. From 2013 on, he resided at Shouldice Lodge. In his later years, Chuck enjoyed watching Cannons’ games; gardening; holding garage sales; tinkering with tools and “fix-its”; as well as maintaining many social connections with CP Pensioners and neighborhood friends at A&W. Chuck was a believer in hard work and common sense. He had a desire to reach out, be friendly and see the cheerful side of life. He is survived by his wife Alva; son Blair; daughter Glenda; three grandchildren and one sister Maryann. He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Selma. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Thaell and the team at Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Donna and the team at Urban Palliative Home Care, and the loving staff at Agapé Hospice.
