He is survived by his wife of 40 years Susan (nee Smithe), his children Jennifer (Jason), Jill (Kevin), Jeffrey (Jennifer) and Janna "Numms"; grandchildren Luka, Tyler, Harlow, Alexys, Lauren and Evelyn. Al was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa and travelled extensively around the world before settling in Canada in the early seventies. He worked in the Oil and Gas industry for nearly five decades, was an avid squash player, dedicated Springboks rugby fan and forever a family man.
A Remembrance Service will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary Alberta (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Friday, November 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honour directly to The ALS Society of Alberta, 250 - 4723 1 Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2G 4Y8 (www.alsab.ca).
