We are very saddened by the unexpected loss of Christy Nicole Phillips, who left us on Sunday, February 26, 2023, after a long battle with mental health.
She will be tremendously missed by her father Bob, stepmother Paulette, mother Irma, sister Lisa (Andrew), and nephews Torin, Halen and Lennox. She will also be missed by many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Christy was a creative and artistic individual, which led her to pursue a career in aesthetics, hair and makeup. She enjoyed sharing these talents with family and friends, who were often willing subjects for her. Christy had a bubbly outgoing personality, incredible laugh, wonderful sense of humour and a big heart for others, and especially for animals. She almost always had a cat or two as companions. While never a musician she loved music and was excellent at music trivia games like “Name That Tune.” Christy found enjoyment in the outdoors, in particular camping and ATVs. She had an active childhood participating in many activities such as baseball and figure skating. Christy had an appreciation for ornamental plants and enjoyed gardening. She loved to accessorize flowers with hand-painted pots she would create and place throughout her space. Cooking and baking were also ways in which she displayed her creativity.
Christy struggled with mental illness and unfortunately had many ups and downs. The family would like to ask that we all help to de-stigmatize mental illness and improve awareness in the hopes that others similarly affected can be reached.
The family would like to thank the entire ICU staff at the Foothills Medical Centre who provided respectful and loving care towards Christy during her final days. Lastly, the family would also like to thank the Human Organ Procurement and Exchange Program (HOPE), which has helped give a sense of meaning and closure to these tragic circumstances. During her lifetime, Christy was very giving and generous. It is fitting that her last act of generosity will be her legacy, by providing others with life-saving transplantation.
Christy will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her big brown eyes and incredible smile.
May she find the peace that sometimes eluded her in life. She will forever be in our hearts and memories. Love always.
If family and friends so desire memorial donations in Christy’s name may be made directly to Calgary’s first dedicated centre for child and adolescent mental health, The Summit: Marian & Jim Sinneave Centre for Youth Resilience via https://www.buildthemup.ca/ or a tree may be planted in Christy’s memory via https://www.alivingtribute.ca/
