Sgt. DAVE CATHCART  was my crew commander in 1962-63 with the FGH. Great leader and friend. MAY HE RIP

Sgt Dave was  my tank commande r and troop Sgt. Great soldier and a great leader and friend .RIP.

I remember Sgt. Cathcart as my Crew Commander with the FGH. Great inspiration for me. Will never forget him. May he RIP

I want to thank everyone who left their memories of my father and for everyone who was able to attend the service on July 24th. 
The family would also like to express our  heartfelt appreciation to the 285 legion for the wonderful ceremony and tribute they gave to him.
And last but not least to the staff of South Centre funeral home for their  help and compassion through our journey. 


I had the wonderful pleasure of working alongside Dave at The Military Museums from 2007 - 2013. His storytelling was legendary, but his smile and laughter is what I remember the most. He was a kind soul who brought life to the museum. Memories of Dave will always be with us.

My thoughts and prayers to Dave's family and friends during this time of great loss.

Uncle Dave you will be surely missed by your family. My dad Bernie, who you first knew as Mac, in the 1950's onward were great friends, meeting as part of the Lord Strathcona Horse.  You were a proud soldier.

RIP Dave. Condolences and prayers go out to Dave's family and friends. 
Dave you had a great influence in our lives. Douglas (Mo) Morrison was your best friend, you two started out in the Military together, 1948 RCD's, in 1959 FGH, your final postings  was the LDSH. You came and saw my first husband, Jim, every day, until he passed away . You came to my Daughter 's Wedding, at the Hospital, you helped us celebrate Mo's and my Wedding, in  2007. I miss my Birthday cards, you sent to me every year.  Have fun in that big Hagar  in the  Sky. Bold and Swift, Facta Non Verba  and Perseverance. You will always in our hearts. 

I have volunteered at the TMM for many years and David was always polished, professional and willing to share. He will be missed.

Dave was also a past member of the Calgary Military Historical Society. His obituary was published in their most recent newsletter. On behalf of the members of the society, I was asked to submit condolences to David's family.

My condolences to Dave’s family and friends. I met Dave in 2000 at the Military Museums where he was a longtime host and “go to guy” when it came to tanks and the Korean War. He showed me the ropes and I always appreciated his military knowledge and life experiences. He was a model host and always gave his best as a museum volunteer. It was evident he loved interacting with visitors, sharing his knowledge, and telling anecdotes that would have everyone laughing. 

Many wonderful memories and here are a few. All you had to do was start a song and he would jump right in, as he loved to sing. Sometimes he even would dance a jig. One time, we went to the movie “Warhorse” and Dave cried at the end; he couldn’t stop talking about the horses. Another great memory was the time we climbed all over the Lord Strathcona Horse “Catherine” tank and he gave a spontaneous in-service to the attending soldiers about Sherman tanks. 

To me, he was a teacher, mentor, and friend. I miss him but will always carry his influence with me.

Rest In Peace Dave, you are gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. We are thankful for having met you and for the lasting imprint you have left on our hearts.

Dave, was my Sgt on the LRT for years, he was very dedicated to the job and received the utmost respect from anyone that ever worked with him.
Dave always gave 100%, he loved riding the rails  and protecting the patrons of Calgary Transit under the Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statutes  that govern the Transit System.

His ideals were passed on to many of us who respected the system and wanted to make a difference to the citizens of Calgary.
Dave,  we all thank you for your generosity, leadership and kindness at times when we needed it. 
I also want to personally  thank you very much for believing in me, you were a huge influence in my career at Calgary Transit as a Peace Officer /Special Constable.

You were the Best Sgt in the history of Calgary Transit.
I will never forget you, love you.🙏

I served with Sgt
 Cathcart in the Fort Garry Horse in B Sqn. 2nd  troop in Petawawa and Fort Beasujour Germany. I was his Gunner for awhile and then i left the Army. Shortly after leaving Sgt. Cathcart sent me a pic of myself on a Centurion tank and a note on the back . I still have it to this day.RIP Sgt. Cathcart. Facta Non Verba. 



Wendy, Shelley, and Kevin, I was sad to see your dads obit today in the Calgary Sun.  My condolences to you all for your loss. Somebody once said, "It matters not the car, the house, the cash..what matters most is how you spent the dash." 1929-2020
By all accounts I will remember Dave Cathcart as a generous man with both his time and resources, as well as, having a huge lust for life.  R.I.P. Mr. Cathcart and to those left behind I will leave you with an old Irish saying.."May your grief be as brief as a falling leaf at the closing of the day."
