On November 30, 2019, at the age of 66, David Ernest Maxwell stepped into Eternity after a determined and grace-filled journey with cancer. David cherished life and lived it fully. David was born in Jos, Nigeria on January 12, 1953.
In addition to his early years in Nigeria, he spent time in the US, eventually moving to Alberta, living in Calgary and Three Hills. More recently, David embraced adventure in Italy, Croatia and Costa Rica.
He loved books and reading, he loved people, travel, and connection. He was funny, playful and eccentric, distinguished and charismatic. He was an avid fan of science fiction and fantasy from epic novels to the annual Doctor Who PBS marathons. He had a heart for God, for justice, and for kindness.
David said one of his hopes was “to never hold back from allowing the Holy Spirit to develop my life and character as He wishes.” This work in his life was evident in his efforts to help those who needed help, and offer support to many who were struggling. For so many people over the years, David was there with an early morning coffee, a book recommendation, and a listening ear.
David is beloved and forever treasured by his soulmate Glenda, and admired by her son, Gregary. He is also dearly loved and remembered by his oldest child Tiffany and their stepchildren Hawk and Astrid; daughter Domini and her children Abby and Levi; sister Ruth; brother Mark and his wife Elaine and their children Jocelyn, Deborah, and Charlotte; and by his former wife, Sue. His extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins will also miss him.
David is respected and honoured by a large network of friends, including over 30 years of friendship with the Logos Bookstore community and personal friends around the globe.
David joins his parents, Ernest and Freeda Maxwell, as well as many loved kith and kin who have already stepped into Eternity. Now he is with God, the One he so loved, and whose commandment to love he held deeply in his heart.
A celebration of David’s life will take place at Foster’s Garden Chapel on his birthday, January 12, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
