David John Raffa passed away at the age of 74 years as a result of injuries suffered in a cycling accident near Lac des Arcs on July 2, 2020. Dave is lovingly remembered by his brother Art (Kitty) and his sister Donna (Jim Bancroft) and his cherished cousins Roger and Gary (Devray) Lafferty and their families and his many other cousins in the McGuire and Raffa families. He was uncle to Jennifer (Tony) Pasquini, Stephen (Tammy) Raffa, Paul (Sandi) Raffa, Ryan Bancroft, Matthew Bancroft (Tia Halliday) Kathryn (Michael) Kenny and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Dave was pre-deceased by his parents, Frank and Winnie Raffa, and his sister, Maureen.
Dave was born in Calgary but spent his early childhood years in Irricana, Alberta. Dave spoke warmly of his time there and his love of the wide open spaces and the unhurried and relaxed environment. He carried this love his entire adult life through his passion of being in the outdoors and cycling in the mountains. Dave was an independent, spirited and strong-willed person who inspired those around him with his positive attitude. He was extremely well read with very broad interests and he enjoyed classical music and visiting with family and friends. The family would like to thank the motorists who came to Dave’s assistance immediately following his accident, the members of Canmore EMS/Fire Rescue, Stars Air Ambulance and to the doctors and nurses at the Foothills Hospital who cared for Dave following his accident.
In lieu of flowers and if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Stars Air Ambulance Foundation or to the charity of their choosing.
