David Rory Sussums

The world lost an extraordinary person when Dave passed away on June 5, 2011 at the premature age of 29 years after an incredibly strong and courageously fought battle. Dave was thrilled to watch his team, the Vancouver Canucks, excel this season into the playoffs and all the way into the Stanley Cup Finals, bringing both anxious and joyous moments. Dave will always be remembered for his unfaltering positivity, incredible strength and his undisputed ability to bring about happiness, smiles and laughter in everyone privileged enough to meet him. He will be incredibly missed and fondly remembered by countless family members and friends. Our sincerest thanks go out to individuals responsible for Dave's quality care in the past months with a special thanks to Dr. Cindy Card, Stephanie Duffy and their entire medical oncology team; Dr. Janice Pasieka; the Palliative Homecare Team; and the many doctors and nurses who attended to Dave while in hospital. A celebration of life will be held at the FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on June 12, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. There will be an additional celebration held in Crawford Bay, B.C. on July 23, 2011. In lieu of flowers, Dave's request was for donations of blood, or contributions to www.carcinoidawareness.org , or www.albertacancer.ca , Tom Baker Cancer Centre because of the fantastic care he received there.
