She was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 30, 1942, to Jean Treble and Gilbert Weissbach. Donna married Bernard Ward in October of 1963 and they had two children, Kimberley and Donald.
After graduating high school in Oxbow, Saskatchewan, Donna trained to be a Registered Laboratory Technician in Manitoba. She and Bernard subsequently moved to Swift Current, where she worked as a Lab Tech at the Swift Current Union Hospital. In 1970, the family moved to Calgary where they owned and operated Sunnyside Grocery for over 20 years.
Throughout her life Donna was very active and enjoyed sports. She was always eager to get together with friends to play a round of golf or hit the tennis court. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Tennis Club and Fox Hollow Women’s League. Given her competitive spirit, she played in many golf and tennis tournaments and had a wall of medals and trophies to show for it. Donna often commented that the worst part of declining health was having to give up the sports she loved.
Donna was predeceased by Bernard, her husband of 54 years, and survived by her daughter, Kimberley (Robert Langford); and son, Donald (Jody Urquhart).
Donna made her wishes clear before her passing and did not want people to celebrate her life with a service.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society at https://cancer.ca/en/
