Dora was studying to be a Lab Technician at the University of Saskatchewan when she met the love of her life, Evert (Hermie) Hermanson. They were married October 7, 1950 and with Hermie’s RCAF career, were based across Canada. The family moved back to Calgary in 1964 when Hermie retired from flying and returned to pharmacy.
Once the family was settled, Dora worked until she and Hermie retired to Vancouver Island in 1983 where she enjoyed 29 years of golfing, entertaining and quilting. They spent many winters in Yuma, AZ and enjoyed several international trips. In 2012, they came back to Calgary to be closer to family.
Dora was predeceased by her son, Grant in 1975, her husband, Hermie in 2018 and six siblings. Dora is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Marjory (Hutcheson), Shirley (Foote), son, Bradley (Lin Westermark); daughters, Shirley (Glenn Dawson) and Myrna (Harry Kruger). Her hugs will be missed by her 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Dora was a beautiful person inside and out. Her door was always open and she made people feel welcome and special. She was a sweet, kind, and caring soul with a mischievous sense of humour which she kept until the end. Dora suffered from Alzheimer’s but loved to sing and could remember the words to many songs. Her smile would light up a room and fill your heart.
