Doug was born to Bert and Cele White (Rose) on November 3, 1954 in Calgary, Alberta. After surviving more than one childhood disease and the many adventures of an Alberta childhood, Doug completed his diploma in Power Engineering Technology at SAIT. He married the love of his life, Dianne (Geier) in 1975 and went on to raise 4 children. Doug started his career as an Operator for Shell, and when shift work was no longer an option, climbed through the ranks at Aquitaine, Canterra and Husky, finishing his career at TransCanada Pipelines (now TCEnergy). Doug retired to putter on his acreage, spend time with his children and grandchildren and cruise the world with his wife. He was known as the family historian, knower of useless facts and was always the one to go to when a tool was needed or something needed to be fixed.
He left an indelible impression on all who met him, and will be missed.
Doug is survived by his wife Dianne, brother Murray (Irina) and sister Cathy (Don); four children, Patty (Greg), Vicki (Brett), Jill (Michael), Jim (Lisa) and six grandchildren.
Doug’s family wishes to thank Doctors Gaudet and Couillard and the team of doctors, nurses and medical specialists at Foothills Medical Center ICU Unit C for their kindness and care in Doug’s final days. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memoriam may be made in Doug’s name to STARS Air Ambulance via https://give.stars.ca or to the Foothills Hospital through Calgary Health Foundation via http://my.calgaryhealthfoundation.ca/doug
