

Earle Adelbert Wood passed away peacefully at the Colonel Belcher Care Centre on April 25, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Earle is lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Vera Wood (nee Lewis), his son Jock Wood and wife Debby of North Vancouver and daughter Jillian Czernick and husband Kel of Calgary; his grandchildren Meghan Wood, Kevin Wood, Jeffrey Czernick and Trevor Czernick. Earle is also survived by his sisters Phyllis Lassey and Alberta Maitland and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Freeman and Allan Wood and his sisters Gladys Dolan and Alma Kellner.
Earle was born December 26, 1919 on a farm in Westlock, Alberta. He left home at the age of “14” to forge his future. He joined the army on the outbreak of WWII. While training in Nanaimo, he met his wife Vera. They married in 1941 and he left shortly after for 4 years where he was involved in several military campaigns including the Liberation of Holland and was awarded several military medals. After the war, Earle and Vera settled in Vancouver and raised their family. Earle worked for various electrical companies eventually ending his career as Transmission Superintendent for B.C. Hydro and Power Authority. Earle and Vera enjoyed a very full life and had many friends.
There will be two opportunities to celebrate Earle’s Life. The first Celebration of Life will be held at South Calgary Funeral Centre, 12700 Macleod Trail South, Calgary on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
A second celebration will be held at the Langley Senior Center, 20605 – 51B Avenue, Langley on Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
