Eleanor Mae Klassen passed away peacefully on November 9, 2021, at the age of 84 years. Eleanor is predeceased by her husband, Henry Glenn “Bud” Klassen in 1975, her father, Ernest Rhodes in 1976 and by her mother, Florence Rhodes in 1998.
Born on May 29, 1937, in Calgary, Alberta, Eleanor spent her early years as a member of the Calgary Rifle & Pistol Club where she earned several accuracy badges. Eleanor met her husband, Bud in 1955 and they started their family in 1957. Camping was an important part of family life until Eleanor lost her husband in 1975. To support her family, Eleanor took several jobs and ended her career with TransCanada Pipelines.
Her enjoyments later in life included playing cards, needlepoint, dancing, reading, and playing dominoes. Eleanor met her partner, Norm Millar, later in life. They spent every day together, enjoyed playing dominoes and especially took delight by going to the casino’s and playing the slots.
Eleanor is lovingly remembered by her 3 children, Mike Klassen (Hope), Dan Klassen (Patty), and Marianne Kleve (Arnold). She is also blessed with 2 granddaughters, Heather (Ben), Jesse (Shane), 2 grandsons, Joel (Jennifer), and Jeff along with 3 great-grandchildren, Rylan, Jett, and Gryphon. Eleanor always looked forward to visits with Rylan, and he held a very special place in her heart. Eleanor is also survived by her sister, Bev Kaluznik and her brother, Ted Rhodes.
We would like to thank the staff at Chinook Care Centre for the loving care and compassion throughout her final weeks.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Graveside Service held at Queen's Park Cemetery, 3219 - 4 St NW, Calgary, AB, (across from Foster’s Garden Chapel) on November 18, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
