Elli passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the age of 87 years in Calgary, AB. As a young woman, she made the difficult journey from Germany to start her new life in Canada, landing in St. John, New Brunswick. She worked in Southern Alberta repaying the church for the sponsorship of her fare. She remained faithful and dedicated to her church throughout her life. This was the start of her love for this country and the place she called home.
Elli met the love of her life, Bernhard, in Alberta and they were married. They enjoyed 49 years together, and welcomed four children. At 72, she embraced the arrival of her 1st grand daughter Emily and 3 years later Sayla. Her fine china was used for many hosted tea parties with the girls, along with a variety of German baked treats for all to share.
In her later years, she lived at the Prince of Peace Manor, where she whole heartedly involved herself in friendships and fun activities throughout her 5 years in the community.
Elli is lovingly remembered by her son Harry (Kim) Zippel, daughter Corinna (Craig) Pattemore and granddaughters Emily and Sayla. Elli is also survived by sister Erika (Brian) Hayes and brother George Schultz.
Elli is predeceased by her husband, Bernhard and her sons Gery and Siegi.
Mom mesmerized us with her kind, loving nature, and her strength through everything touched us all.
A Visitation will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
Interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
