The family moved to Yarrow, BC in 1941. After Elvin left school, he worked in the family store and tended his strawberry field until, at 18 years old, he and some friends headed to Calgary.
He left Calgary to spend a few years in Caronport, SK where he met Vivian. Vivian had two sons, Brian and Larry. Elvin and Vivian married in 1960. Their daughter, Kerri made them a family of five.
Elvin and Vivian settled in Calgary.
Elvin was a hard worker and seemed to quite often have two or more jobs at once. Driving was always one of them, so it was a natural transition for him to become a Calgary Transit Driver. He retired in 1992 after 32 years.
Elvin was a talented wood worker, gardener, and photographer.
Elvin was a gentle man of faith. His Bible was worn. He prayed daily for his precious family. He loved people. In fact, we often said that “people fed his soul”. He gathered friends far and near.
We thank the staff at The Manor Village at Fish Creek, Dr. Jennifer, Lindsey Mills, AHS Palliative Home Care, and Dad’s many friends for their loving and attentive care of Dad for the last few months.
He is survived by his sons Brian (Carolyn), and Dr. Larry (Barbara) Warkentin, and his daughter Kerri-Lynne (Mark) Sanders; 8 grandchildren, David, Daniel, Paul, Dale, Erin, Joel, Joshua, and Amanda; and 8 great-grandchildren Marcus, Levi, Samuel, Jacoby, Finnley, Adna, Joshua, and Zelda (with twins making it 10 this summer). He was predeceased by his wife, Vivian, in 2015.
Family and friends are welcome to join us to remember Elvin at an open house any time between 1:00-4:00 at Brian and Carolyn’s home, 20 Chaparral Crescent, SE, Calgary, on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
