Eric will be lovingly remembered by his four children Audrey (Mark), Shelley (Phil), Lee (Nicola) and Glen (Candace); seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The experiences of his last week represented so much of what Eric enjoyed. Surrounded by family and friends, he continued to take pleasure in watching curling and the Flames accompanied by popcorn, pie, and ice cream. With continued gratitude about the life he’d lived, his sense of humour was present all the way to his passing. Whether pretending his hearing aids weren’t working or joking that he hadn’t been given any gifts recently, he continued to share his enthusiasm for laughter and fun.
Eric was raised on a farm near Allan, Saskatchewan where he became a skilled horse rider and developed a real soft spot for dogs. He loved the time he had with pets Coco and Sasha and, later in life, treasured his time with Heather riding their horses Leigh and Misty. He seemed so content to go back to his roots in the 90’s as Heather and Eric immersed themselves in the lifestyle that came with living on a beautiful acreage outside of High River. They supplemented their life with wonderful trips that included destinations to Churchill, Hawaii, and Europe. Smaller trips included trail rides and those to Bonner’s Ferry where Eric took great joy in being with friends and watching Heather enjoy herself.
Not only was Eric a husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and friend, he embraced many other roles. These included those of mentor, lacrosse coach, nickname giver, heroic caregiver to Heather, sax player, jewelry connoisseur, dance master, singer, birdwatcher, card shark, camping king, volunteer (St. Vincent DePaul Society, Engaged Encounter, faith support) and jokester. Being with Eric always meant you were going to have a great time.
Eric kept his work and personal life separate, but in both instances, he valued relationships the most. His whole life he maintained friendships with those he met from his time in credit at Texaco and Agrium and from every community he lived in. The family thanks all of those who have already shared such incredible memories and kind thoughts about their time with Eric.
These words only begin to capture the depth of Eric’s caring nature. His smile and laughter were both charming and contagious. His family will carry these with them for the rest of their lives.
Thanks and gratitude to all the staff at the Manors Village Fish Creek for the compassion and kindness shown to both Eric and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eric’s memory directly to a charity of choice.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
