Ernest Henry Neufeld, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the Agape Hospice in Calgary, Alberta, on November 1, 2024, at the age of 91. He was born in Purple Springs, Alberta, on September 22, 1933, and lived a life defined by hard work, dedication to family, and a love for the outdoors.
Ernest was a skilled welder and pipefitter, a trade he honed over many years, contributing to numerous projects across Alberta. His strong work ethic was not just a means to provide for his family; it was a value he instilled in his children. He taught them the importance of perseverance, dedication, and the satisfaction of a job well done. Beyond his professional life, Ernest was a true outdoorsman. He had a particular fondness for camping in the Bow River valley. Weekends were dedicated to exploring the natural beauty of Alberta with his family. Whether it was camping under the vast prairie skies, enjoying a picnic lunch by a mountain stream, or hiking through the foothills, Ernest fostered this deep appreciation for nature in his children. He was also passionate gardener who was particularly devoted to growing his tomatoes.
Ernest was a devoted husband to his late wife, Gertrude, who he now joins at Queen's Park Cemetery. Their reunion is a testament to their enduring love and commitment. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his children and their families: Brian, Brenda (Ken), Beverly, and Betty; his grandsons Matthew, Stuart, and Kristopher (Alisha); his granddaughters Whitney (Alex), Kelly, Amanda, and Nikki (Kyle); and his great-granddaughters Ellie, Emma, Willow and Freya; and his great-grandson Xavier. His memory will also be cherished by extended family and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness and warmth.
A Funeral Service to honour Ernest will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL (3220 4th Street NW, Calgary AB) on Tuesday, November 5 at 2:00 P.M. with interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
