

Frances Mary Tanner was born January 22, 1926 and passed away January 12, 2017 after a long and arduous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Swalwell, Alberta to Wm. Henry Kennon and Alice Laura (Hardie) Kennon. After completing her RN training at Calgary General Hospital, class of 1948, she married John Willis Tanner and had 4 children. She worked many years in various nursing homes around Calgary, survived cancer and pursued her interests in the outdoors, family history, reading and a variety of crafts. She is survived by her son Jim (Dianne) Tanner; daughters Megan (Gordon) Mackey, Ruth LaChance and Sherry Sartorelli; one sister Shirley (Jim) Beach; grandchildren Kevin (Veronica Smith) LaChance, Jennifer (Matt) Collins, Matt (Jackie Strauss) Sartorelli, Aria Tanner and Mark Tanner; great grandchildren Alias Engelhardt LaChance, Kaley LaChance, Abigail Collins and Lily Collins; sister in law Marge Kennon and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents; husband John Willis Tanner; brothers Samuel H. Kennon, Gordon A. Kennon and Ralph W. Kennon; sisters Rev. Marjorie Kennon, Nora Gee, and Violet Kennon; sisters in law Peggy Kennon and Jean Chamberlain; brothers in law Ken Gee and Jack Chamberlain; son in law David Sartorelli, and grandson Keith LaChance. A huge thank you to all the staff at Bow View Manor, for all the years of exceptional care that Frances received. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 - 325 Manning Rd N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 2P5, or the Alzheimer Society of Alberta, High Park Corner 308, 14925–111 Avenue, N.W. Edmonton, Alberta, T5M 2P6. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery). Interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
