Fred Hergert would like to let everyone know he is now joyfully free from Alzheimer’s disease. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family to be with his Lord, on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the age 82. Fred (“Fritzie”) was the youngest of eight children, growing up in Riverside and played football for the Calgary Bronx. He married his high school sweetheart Irene, sharing 61 years of marriage together, with three children in the family home he built in Cambrian Heights. He worked for the City of Calgary for 38 years, dedicating his life to his family. He loved his recreational farm near Beiseker, his faithful dog Leeja and brought kindness and compassion to everyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path. Fred is survived by his wife Irene; children Shelley (Mike), Corinne (Myles) and Russell (Caroline); grandchildren Luke, Carly, Sam and Elijah; as well as siblings Emma and Danny. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, 201, 222 – 58 Avenue S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2H 2S3. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca
