March 3, 1924 – July 5, 2011
The family of Gerald Walker regret to announce the passing of Gerald, beloved husband to Eleanor Walker of Calgary, Alberta at the age of 87 years. Gerald was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1924. He was predeceased by his parents Marguerete and Edward, and his brother Edward “Teddy”. Still with us he has two sisters, Audrey (Liam) and Frieda (Michael) that he loved so dearly. Gerald left his immediate family at the age of 17, enlisted to serve during WWII with the RAF (1942 – 1947). Later, he immigrated to Canada starting a new life with a career at SAIT, Canadian Art Galleries and then the Alberta Government managing the bookstores for 35 years. It was there where he met his wife, Eleanor; they married and had two children Craig and Tyna. Later, a proud grandfather to Dustan (Michelle), Breanna (Jay), Tylena and Desmond, then great grandchildren Matalyn, Lynden and Faith were the highlights of his life. Also in mourning are extended family Matt, Marla, Terrill and Ron who loved their father-in-law. His passion was for the great outdoors, golf, fly fishing, camping, animals, being a founding volunteer to PALS (Pet Access League Society), visiting patients with his pets for over a decade. Gerald found inspiration by reading, writing, doing crosswords and playing scrabble with his wife and children, instilling the message to be a life-long learner. At Gerald’s request, there will be no formal Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary, #201, 222 – 58 Avenue SW, Calgary, T2H 2S3 and/or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, #200, 119 – 14 Street NW, Calgary, T2N 1Z6. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
