Gordon Maurer

Gordon Maurer unexpectedly, but peacefully, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the age of 77 years. He was born to Martha and Jacob Maurer on his parent’s homestead near Neudorf, SK on June 10, 1939. He began school in 1946 at Roadside School and finished his formal education by grade eight at Garden School. Gordon began farming full time in the spring of 1955. He was married to Leonella Lutz in 1961 and had two children, Kenneth Gordon in 1964 and Lois Marie (Ferguson) in 1966. Gordon moved the family to Calgary in the spring of 1968 where he built their home. In 1981, Gordon and Leonella went their separate ways. He worked as a cabinet maker and millworker for Jager Homes for 11 years, until 1979 when he took over management of Lux Windows, until his early retirement in 1990. On December 15, 1984, Gordon married Ursula Maria Winkler (nee Schink). Along with Ursula came her two daughters, Angela Ursula and Monika Bettina. Gordon is lovingly remembered by his wife Ursula; son Ken (Marion) Maurer; daughter Lois (Ed) Ferguson; step-daughters Angela (Don) Hemphill, Monika Davidson (Ken Stewart); as well as ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Gordon is also remembered by his sister Elaine (Paul) Schick and numerous nieces, nephews, God children as well as many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Martha, brothers Peter, Ernest and Norman Maurer. A Celebration of his Life will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 204 – 6A Street N.E., Calgary, AB, on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Kayko Driedger Hesslein officiating. Interment of his urn will be in Neudorf, Saskatchewan at a later date.
