Gwendoline Ann Martin peacefully passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the age of 90 years. Gwen is survived by her son Cory, daughter-in-law Lorrie, grandchildren Brent and Rachael all of Calgary, numerous nieces, and nephews of Winnipeg. Gwen was predeceased by her husband of 67 years Mal in 2024, and her sisters Jean and Viola.
After graduating high school, she attended secretarial school, where she excelled, getting a secretarial pool job with Amalgamated Mining and Smelting, which became Cominco Fertilizer. Gwen took 10 years off from 1969 to 1979 to raise Cory, returning to Cominco, which became Agrium, where she retired from in 1996 as the admin assistant for the marketing department. Gwen applied her secretarial skills to the churches she attended, often doing the newsletter and Sunday bulletins.
Gwen and Mal met in Winnipeg on a blind date in 1954, getting married in 1956, they moved to Calgary in 1968, and started a family.
Gwen was an avid knitter, and amateur seamstress, making a lot of her own clothes. Gwen tired of being a “golf widow” and took up the sport to be able to spend more time with Mal and eventually Cory. She was a member of The Elks golf course in Calgary, and finally the golf course in Strathmore.
Gwen and Mal moved to Strathmore in 1999 after a few years of retirement in Calgary, living there until 2022.
Gwen will be greatly missed by her family, especially her grandchildren, who made her smile each and every time she saw them or was talking to someone about them.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Teresa Place for her care during her time there.
By request, there will be no service.
