

Helen Rose Carpenter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on January 1, 2012 at the Stettler Hospital at the age of 90. Helen was born in Saskatchewan on June 3, 1921. In the late 1930's she moved to Calgary, Alberta where she married William Hugo Carpenter. Helen worked at Birks Jewellers in downtown Calgary where she developed a love for the finer things in life, and began a lifelong passion for collecting fine china, silverware, and jewellery. Before retiring, Helen worked for the Calgary Herald as a manager in the classified ads. The position could be demanding but she always met the challenges head on to solve the problems as they arose. Being avid sports lovers. Helen and Hugh spent warm summer days playing tennis, and went speed skating in the winter months. They were much enjoyed at the community skating rink playing games, especially crack the whip with the neighbourhood children. She was well known for her love of entertaining, and was an excellent cook and pianist. Helen loved fashion and was always impeccably dressed. Helen will be remembered for her unconditional support and love for all that had the privilege to be in her presence. She is survived by her husband Hugh Carpenter, daughter Donna Orom (Eugene Orom), grandchildren Ryan Orom, Andrea Larter (Mike Larter) and great-grandchild Evelyn Larter. Helen was recently predeceased by her son Robert James Carpenter. Treasured relatives and friends also survive. A Memorial Service will be held at Michener Hill Extendicare, 12 Michener Blvd., Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 1:00p.m.
