Helen, beloved wife of Stanley, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 after a long, loving and healthy life.
Helen was born and raised in rural Victoria, BC. During her childhood in Victoria she made lifelong friends, including Beryl and Betty. Helen was an exemplary student, pianist and athlete, and was very proud of her Scottish Farquhar heritage.
Helen moved to Calgary as a young woman in 1952, where she met and married Stan on September 3, 1955. They lived in their family home for 65 wonderful years raising their three children and hosting many get-togethers.
Helen was kind, generous, funny and forward thinking, with a keen intellect. She was known as ‘Mom of the Block’. An avid gardener, she shared both her knowledge and bounty. Helen always thought of others and donated generously to many charities.
Helen and Stan loved camping and in later years spent many happy winters in Yuma. They square danced together several times a week for over 50 years, enjoying many fun times with their club including camping and travelling to square dance conventions. They served on their club’s board in multiple positions and committees and were very proud to have danced in the 1988 Calgary Olympic Opening Ceremony.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Stan, of 70 years; children, Roy (Sandra), Rebecca (Bernie) Joly, Neil (Belinda); grandchildren, Lindsay (James), Robyn (Kolter), Sheldon, Kristina (Graham), Jacob (Katarina), Dean (Bella); great grandchildren, Kai, Logan, Kennedy; numerous nieces, nephews, family members & friends, as well as sister-in-law Bunty Farquhar and Stan’s extended family, including the Briggs.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, William & Lizzie (Betty) Farquhar, and siblings, Ruth (Pink) Mannix, Gordie Farquhar and Bill (Barb) Farquhar.
