Henri Joseph Sauve passed away at the Rockyview Hospital after a long illness on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the age of 87 years. Joe was born in Calgary on February 2, 1923, growing up on the family farm in Rumsey, Alberta. He started out farming, but then took over, eventually selling it and becoming the owner of a hotel in Strathmore and later, the Clover Leaf Trailer Park in Calgary. After retiring, Joe was a groundskeeper at the University of Calgary keeping the lawns neat and trim. He was an avid gardener, his garden was his pride and joy. Joe was a passionate curler, loved playing horseshoes and played a mean game of pool. He was the life of the party, and everyone enjoyed his jokes and good humour. Joe also served his country as a Lading Aircraft Man in the Canadian Royal Airforce from 1943 to 1945. Joe is lovingly remembered by Barbara (Betti) Starlinger, his companion of thirty years. He is also sadly missed by his children, Margaret Irene Watson and Stanley Joseph Sauve; grandchildren, Nancy McCallum, Denise Watson, Karen Watson, Michelle Sauve, and Collin Sauve, as well as numerous relatives and friends. Joe was predeceased by father Henry Joachim Sauve (farmer), mother Rose Wright (teacher) and sister Gerasine. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
