I met Iian In  Calgary about 1971 after he moved south from Inuvik. We became good friends and had a lot of fun together. His sense of humor and constant jokes kept me in stitches.  He wanted to become a Calgary  City Policeman, but couldn't meet the minimum weight requirement, much to his dismay. Sadly, we lost contact with each other, until this last online search turned up his obituary. I am very saddened by this news, as I tried numerous times over the years to find him. To his wife, children and his entire family, I offer my sincere condolences.  

With Graeme, one of Iain's younger brothers, watched the telecast that the family in Canada organised for the funeral Thursday 30 July... both of us thought it very moving... A song sung by one of Graeme's younger relations helped him break some of the emotion built up, for which he thanks her... I only met Iain two or three times - the long distance of course - but I am glad I did...

Very sorry for our loss.  Iain had a full and varied life.  I always liked working with Iain.  Very interesting talking about aircraft and his service in the RAF auxiliary back in the UK.  Rest in Peace.

Iain's mother and father - Jim (92) and Betty (86) Eddie - have derived great comfort from hearing the many fine tributes paid to their eldest son... messages from family and friends alike and including his railway brothers. Iain, they ask to be written, 'will always be in our thoughts, and be remembered'... but for now they feel an 'emptiness'... RIP Iain

I would like to thank Iain, Kathy and the Eddie family for your friendship throughout my childhood years.  I remember the time I climbed up the cabinet in the living room, broke a shelf and lost that piece of Kristin's baby hair (Which I'm still very sorry for).  Johnny and I spent a lot of time in the old back yard playing on the rope swing with Kristin and Ken.  The four of us were peas in a pod in those days.  Iain's passing came with great sadness and my heart aches for the whole family.  I send my prayers for peace in your hearts that Iain is at rest now.  My sincerest condolences

My condolences to the Eddie family, I only knew Iain from our working days with CP. I worked the Mountain Sub, and Ian worked that Laggan Sub, we occasionally would change off with one another's train at Field BC. I considered him a railroad brother, as we shared the same rest house facility at the away from home work place. I have fond memories of Iain.

Remembering going with Iain on Ken and Johnny's first day of school at Cappy Smart. Fond memories.  Thoughts are with the family.  Condolences from both of us.

I met Mr. Eddie when I was in Jr. High; he was a funny but strong man to me.  He seemed to enjoy playing jokes on us kids! As a child I spent many days in the Eddie home and I often think of those days with a smile on my face! My thoughts and prayers are with his family as they mourn his loss and our prayers are that he rest easy and his family rest in the love and knowledge that he is taken care of and that they are taken care of here on earth as we love and care for them. Rest easy Iain. I recall climbing abord Iain's Engine in the middle of the night while doing my Field Hill Qualification as a conductor trainee. He was making toast on the kettle stove and the cab reeked of burned toast. He had never met me, and i made a rude comment about the stench.... He grinned and said..."just like I like it". As a greenhorn, he really had nothing to say to me, but when I detected his Scots accent, I mentioned that I'd served in a Highland Regiment, he warmed up immediately, and a conversation ensued. As someone who worked with Iain, as an RTC (DFL), I can say Iain was easy to get along with,...Iain could always be counted on to do his best, at times when the railroad was at it's worst.... Rest in peace Iain,....

As a long time co-worker of Iain I would like to express my sorrow and convey condolences to the Family . I will always remember Iain and his mischievous grin. Iain was a true rebel who had a heart of gold . I considered Iain a mentor and he was always willing to impart his vast railway knowledge on more junior employees. The Brotherhood will miss him .
