

Irene Margaret Hawes passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the age of 80 years. Irene is sadly missed by her son Billy (Jamie), her daughter Jeanie (Gary), and her two grandchildren Caiden and Breanna. Irene was predeceased by her loving husband “Bill”, mother Jeanie Brannan, her father John Clifford, and her sister Annie and brother Gerald. Irene was born in Glasgow, Scotland and came to Canada in the 1960’s. The first place she came to was Kenora, Ontario to work, and from there she met Bill, her husband. Bill was a pilot on Lake of the Woods and great adventures were on the horizon. Irene and Bill ventured to Calgary where they undertook many business ventures including the Calgary Flying Club, the A-1 Drive Inn in Cochrane, and the Highland shop. Irene was a wonderful ambassador to Scotland as she organized Piping Schools, Scottish Entertainers, Highland Games, and so much more for the Scottish Community. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 10:00am; with The Reverend Michael Storey CD, Presider. Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation 200, 119 – 14 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 and the Canadian Diabetes Association, 204, 2323 – 32 Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 6Z3.
