September 30, 1921 – August 21, 2013
J.H. Jackson passed away in Calgary, AB at the Rockyview Hospital after a brief illness on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the age of 91 years.
He resided at the Beverly Centre Glenmore from May 23, 2013 and prior to that lived at the Whitehorn Village Retirement Centre. J.H. was born in Richardson, Texas and served in the US Merchant Marines during WW II. After the war, he obtained employment with National Geophysical and was sent to Canada in January 1949 to work for six months with a seismic crew in Alberta and Saskatchewan. J.H. met his future wife, Beatrice, and decided to stay in Canada. He then spent the next 64 years explaining to people why he only had initials for a first name! J.H. and Bea moved to Calgary in 1960 with their two young girls and purchased a house in Brentwood in 1962 where they lived for the next 48 years. National Geophysical was bought out by Teledyne Exploration and J.H. stayed with that company and retired as a vice president in 1986. J.H. was predeceased by Beatrice in February 2012 and their infant son, James, in 1957. He is survived by his daughters, Linda and Peggy, both of Calgary; sister, Jeanette Johnson (Pineville, LA); sisters-in-law, Sandra Morgotch (Vernon, BC) and Irma Esopenko (Yorkton, SK) and his little dog, Rusty. J.H. was a good man with a strong moral compass and sound work ethic. He was intelligent, kind and had a wonderful sense of humour. J.H. will be very dearly missed by Linda and Peggy who would like to thank the wonderful staff at Rockyview Unit 47, Beverly Glenmore and Whitehorn Village for the excellent care of their father.
A private family service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Humane Society, 4455 110 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
