Jacqueline Louise Hanna-Bourne

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Jacqueline into the hands of our Lord. Jacqui was born in her beloved Cape Breton on May 8, 1939 to Martha Mary (Haddad) and John Patrick Hanna.

One of the greatest gifts to mom’s heart was her life with Tom Bourne; married in 2001 they shared 19 wonderful years of marriage. They loved to travel and spent much time in England, Greece, Las Vegas, Cape Breton and Newfoundland just to name a few.

Jacqui retired from the Calgary Catholic School Board after more than 30 years of service at both St. Bonaventure Junior High School and later at the CCSB Head Office.

Jacqui’s faith was very important to her and offered her great comfort throughout the course of her illness. She was a long-time member of the congregation of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church.

Jacqui was passionate about many things; speed skating, which she loved participating in until only 2 or 3 years ago; she worked out 6 days a week at Curves and Jazzercise, the latter of which she was the class registrar (for Judy) for more than 40 years. She was a member of the Gyrettes and was their social coordinator for many years. Jacqui made friends wherever she went and was an inspiration to all of them. Her friends were very important to her and she loved them dearly.

One of her greatest joys was the birth of her grandchildren Maren and Galen who she loved and cherished more than anything. Her visits to Halifax, Sydney and Little Anse held many wonderful memories.

Jacqui is survived by her husband Tom Bourne; daughter Dennette (Glenn); grandchildren Maren and Galen; son Christopher (Bernie); sisters Theresa (Frank) and Elaine and brother Sheldon (Linda) as well as many nieces and nephews; step-children Dawn (Eric), David (Shona), Joanne (Chris) and step-grandchildren Michael, Stephen, Matthew, Anna, Kate, Megan.

Jacqui was predeceased by her parents Martha and Johnny, brother John Junior and niece Cheryl.

The family would like to express deep gratitude towards all medical professionals at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and Unit 64 McCaig Tower at the Foothills Medical Centre.

Prayer Service will be held at St. Bonaventure Parish, (1600 Acadia Drive SE), on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bonaventure Parish, (1600 Acadia Drive SE), on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Internment to take place at a late date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Jacqui’s memory directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
