Jim is predeceased by his parents, William and Ruth Schwab (Regina), and his beloved sister Velma (Toronto) as well as his dear aunts and uncles, Sal and Viola Severson (Ogema) and Ervin and Tina Paulson (Calgary). He is also predeceased by his life partner Fong (Susie) Louis in 2008. He is survived by his older sister Dolores Tufts in Regina and her children Cindy (Allan) Rennebohm in Calgary and Pam Soveran, Angie (Blaine) Wagner, Kevin Gerry and Melanie (Tim) Lazurka all in Regina as well as all of their children. Fong’s children Soon, Archie and Wanda Louis and two grandsons, Tim and Justin Louis of Calgary will also miss him fondly as they shared many happy memories of Uncle Jimmy.
Jim was born in Weyburn, SK and moved with his family to Regina at five years of age. He attended Innismore, Haultain and Rosemont Schools as well as Sheldon Williams Collegiate. He started working at Kemsol Products in Regina and at the age of 24, he moved to Calgary. He worked in a variety of nightclubs in the sixties and seventies where he met Fong. They loved to travel and frequently visited Hawaii, Mexico and Las Vegas. Jim loved people and could talk easily with anyone. He told amazing stories about his adventures and often embellished them with outrageous outcomes that ended with “Jimmy what have you done now!” Jim had a wicked sense of humour and loved to socialize with family and friends over a pint and a good meal.
During his last years, Jim struggled with the slow decline of dementia but that didn’t take away his sense of homour or his ability to laugh at a good story. At his request, there will be no funeral but a family gathering will be held in Saskatchewan in the summer to celebrate our memories of him.
