My beloved son, Jeremy Gordon Powell came into this world a determined little guy, and on his own time frame just after midnight November 3rd, 1978, and passed away at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary on June 10, 2025, at the age of 46.
As an active and curious child, Jeremy would always want to know “are we there yet?” and immediately afterwards “ok what are we doing next?”
His childhood was filled with lots of adventures like camping and fishing as well as trips to the Zoo and practically living at his favorite place, Heritage Park. At the park he loved visiting all the animals and sailing on the paddle wheeler but most especially he had a fondness for the replica trains on which he would play at being the engineer for hours. He tended to do everything with great speed and zeal, and on a couple of unfortunate occasions this called for trips to the hospital emergency room.
During his school years he enjoyed time with cub scouts, summer camps, sea cadets and volunteering with a group to build houses in a village in Mexico. Once out of school he went to work at a Cabinet Making company and volunteered his time in the construction of the 118 Youth Ranch located north of Cochrane. He loved to work outdoors and spent a number of years working on landscaping crews here and in B.C. where he mastered the operation of Bobcat equipment. Later on in his career he turned his skills to construction and stucco work.
An avid Wrestling, Flames and Stampeders fan he enjoyed playing golf and softball and singing Karaoke. He had great fun on houseboat trips, camping, playing with his dogs, and just hanging out with friends. One of his more recent and fondly remembered experiences was a cruise to Hawaii enjoyed with his whole family.
Although he faced many struggles throughout his life, he was fiercely determined and fought hard to overcome them. He had a big heart and kind spirit and would jump at the chance to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Family was very important to Jeremy and now that he is finally at peace, he will be able to once again walk with his much admired, Uncle Pete, his beloved Grampa Roy and his cherished, dogs Darby and Bailey who went before him.
Jeremy will be hugely missed and lovingly remembered by his mom, Linda; his grama Marge; uncles Dave, and Rod; aunt Shireen and his close friends. And, as he leaves us to take the next path on his journey I am reminded of this Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton song….
“When I get where I am going, on the far side of the sky
The first thing that I’m gonna do, is spread my wings and fly.”
So Fly, my son Fly.
