John Paul Block

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of John Paul Block, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. John passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in Calgary, AB at the age of 81 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; daughters Jean (Mark), Sheila (George), Elaine and Marnie; grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, Andrew, Kyle, Michelle, Miles, Matthew and Paige; sisters, Inez of Drayton Valley, AB, Lila of Stony Lake, ON and Alwilda of Redwood, CA as well as brother-in-law, Jim (Jane) of Trail, BC. John was predeceased by his loving parents, John and Lillian Block; brothers, William, Richard, Bruce and Brian and sisters, Esther and Bernice. He will be missed by many nephews and nieces. John loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and woodworking. He loved animals, especially his beloved dogs. John worked his entire career in the oil industry, retiring from Petro Canada in 1995.

A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the charity of one’s choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
