An amazing man, John Kaminski, our father, grandfather, great grandfather, passed on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the age of 100 years and 8 months! He was in good health until the last week of his life when he had a stroke. In palliative care, we knew Dad could hear. After playing the hymn “Softly and tenderly, Jesus is calling… come home, come home,” he took three shallow breaths and went home! He is now having such a great reunion with many relatives and friends and especially with his wife, Mary, who passed 17 years ago. John and Mary had been married 62 years.
John was born on the family homestead near Lemberg, Saskatchewan to parents Karl Kaminski and mother, Bertha (nee Wolf). At the age of 13, he endured a farm accident resulting in the partial loss of his left leg. He successfully overcame this handicap.
John was employed by Revenue Canada as a Special Investigator for 35 years in Regina and Vancouver. John retired in 1979, and he and Mary spent many winter years in California. In the year 2000, they moved from White Rock, BC to Calgary.
John, was so proud of his family and lovingly remembered by his children Candice (Dave) and Melvin (Joanne). Also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Suzanne (Steve), Sean (Shannon), Michael (Jess), Alison (Andrew), and Aaron (Megan) and by his great grandchildren Emma, Katie, Ryan, Will, Aidan, Alina, Emmett, Ethan and Stella. John being the oldest in his family is survived by his brother Orville (Shan) and sister Lillian and is predeceased by his brothers, Edwin, Karl, Norman and sister, Hilda.
A heartfelt thank you to the compassionate caregivers at Brentwood Care Centre for their care shown to Dad these past five months. Also thank you to Dr. Ward his physician, Jean his pharmacist and to the staff and residents at Atria Retirement where Dad happily made home for the last 20 years.
He had many relatives and friends and is remembered as being such a kind, well dressed gentleman. Dad’s spirit lives on in the lives he has touched, the love he shared, and the countless memories he leaves behind. Though we are heartbroken, he has gone home to his Lord, and we rejoice in the amazing life that he lived.
