

He lived in his original house in Calgary for 63 years.
John was the son of George and Katie Hnatyshyn. He had six siblings, Tom, Vickie, Jean, Ed, Marge and Mickey.
John is survived by his three children, Rob (Dale), Roy (Rosann) and Ramona (Mike); four grandchildren, Jordan (Alex), Sheldon (Meagan), Johnathon and Jennifer; three great grandchildren, Noah, Ezra and Josie, and a fourth great grandchild due in August.
John worked for the City of Calgary, for 27 years, primarily in the Waste Management department, before retiring in April 1994. He was a member of St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He enjoyed curling with his coworkers at the Big Four building in Stampede Park. He was a Calgary Stampeders football season ticket holder for many years and enjoyed watching the Calgary Flames hockey on TV. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Was a passionate gardener and loved his perennials, rose bushes, and many garden ornaments in his yard.
A Memorial Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
He will be dearly missed and is forever in our hearts.
