Phil Ramos passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on August 4, 2024 at the age of 76. He was born on May 7, 1948 in Cebu City, Philippines and was the youngest of seven children. Later he moved to Canada in 1969, married Sherry Johnson in 1973 then followed the birth of his 3 children born in 1973, 1975, 1977. In the 1980’s sadly, mental illness took its toll, and Phil found himself building a community on the streets of Calgary for the remainder of his life.
Phil will be remembered by his children and their families, Jesse Ramos (Julian, Carter, and Liam), John & Andrea Ramos (Preston, and Lexi) and Manna & James Middleton (Logan, Kaiden, and Taia).
He was predeceased by his mother Amadea, father Crispin Sr., brothers Winifredo, Esther, Rachel, Crispin, Jr., and Jean and survived by, one sister still living in Calgary, Lydia. He is surrounded by the love of many cousins, nieces, nephews and family members in the Philippines, Canada, and around the world. Excerpt taken from A Journey Remembered written by Phil’s eldest sibling, Ruth Ramos-Nuez, “So, dear ones, this is, was our family: imperfect, broken, humbled. But I’ll always thank God for placing me in this particular home of Mama Mading and Papa Pepin, our precious Christian parents. God doesn’t ever make mistakes. This is where He planted us and I wouldn’t ever have wanted it otherwise. Here, we experienced untold joys and pains together. And here we withered the harsh, crumpling, and turbulent storms of life together” (p. 118).
Cremation was in the care of Foster’s Garden Chapel. Phil’s urn will be placed during a private interment at Prairie Sky Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Phil’s name will be gratefully accepted by AgeCare Mount Royal Long-Term Care home that took good care of him in his final years.
