Winding up on a memorial site has got to be the worst possible outcome when looking up an old classmate.... I was trying to track him down to tell him I'd just dug up and framed some art cards he made from his neon sign prints. Never knew him that well in high school but we sure wasted some quality time together in East Van when he was at Emily Carr. Really wishing I'd thought to look him up a few months earlier now. Rest in peace my dear Coyote.

Of all the flukes to land me onto this page...I'm very sorry to see this. 

I haven't seen John's gregarious face since he finished his English degree, so I hope it isn't out of place to share a memory and a thought. 

In grade 5 our teacher asked us to write a story of any kind and of any length. John wrote a send-up of the Maltese Falcon and, yes, it killed. Mrs. Branch delightedly read it aloud to us and we secretly wondered how John came up with it all.

I remember John as a perpetually tall, gangly kid with a rambunctious sense of humour. He was also vividly alive, a little more animated than the rest of us. A person can be many things between school and their 50s, but I'd bet John never lost his native vigour, a certain gusto all of his own. May he rest peacefully and his surviving family and friends be comforted.

(The image of John golfing with Graham Neil gladdens my heart. John couldn't have asked for a better, truer friend. And thank you to Marnie Laycock, probably still the prettiest girl in the world, for that memory of John and Matthew.)

I was a long time friend of John and was completely shocked to hear this news.    John was a true human being - often so hard to find these days.   He will be missed and I will remember my days of golf with him especially in recent years.    God speed and I’ll see you on the golf course in a better place.

I hired John at Bredin, I told him at the interview that his resume sucked and I often offered to re-do it for him. But John was larger than life and did impress at the interview. My hiring point was when he gave the right response to Hey, hey BooBoo, lets go get some piqanique (sic) baskets to which he responded ok Yogi. We were teaching more than a language, but a culture and John understood that. I saw it in his students, all of whom had very positive feedback about the classes and John, it also showed in our students' high success ratings.
It took an impressive short period for John and Michael to put together the entire course curriculum and begin teaching. John was always fun to work with, I could pop into any of his classes and we would have little chats and include our students...great at improvising. We stayed in touch, exchanging emails, phone calls, occasional coffee meetings. We were constantly on the lookout for job opportunities for each of us. 
I miss John, the world is a lesser place without him.

Hi Pritchard family. I am so sorry to hear this news about John. I was close friends with him in high school, went on our end-of-year houseboat trips in the Shuswaps, hung out as a big group for most of high school, but I moved out east for grad school and lost touch with a lot of folks from Aberhart. John was a real sweatheart, and I just wanted to reach out to say how sorry I was to hear that he had passed so young. Early loss like this is so incredibly hard. I lost my mom when she was 53 and I was 26, so I have a small idea of how this feels, tho no experience with losing your child so young. He was a real spark. Condolences to all of you. Sending love. I am deeply sorry for John's family and friends.   I attended elementary, Junior High and High School school with John.   He was  supportive,  encouraging and  fun.   I know he will be deeply missed.

So sorry to hear this! I went to high school with John. I suppose I'd have to say that I didn't know him well but he sat behind me in physics class. He sat with Matthew Hodgkinson. All I remember is laughing and laughing amd laughing with John and Matthew.  I think I ended up dropping physics class but now I wish I stayed just to be with these two!  It's hard to describe my memories of John but they are happy memories and I do remember his humor and sweet demeanor!! ❤️
