

Josephine Hazelton
Born: October 21, 1910
Age: 105 years, 1 month, 14 days.
On Sunday, December 6, 2015 Josie passed away peacefully at 105 years of age with her family by her side. Her spirit is free now surrounded by endless and infinite beauty. Her loving, deep eye contact, feisty spirit, quick wit, and surprising humour resonated with all who knew her. Josie, as she was so lovingly called, was born on October 21, 1910 in Speier, Germany, the eldest child of Steve and Rose Cooper.
Josie will be survived by her children John (Marie) Hazelton, Violet Legge, Irene (Frank) Patterson, and Don (Shirley) Hazelton.
Josie will be lovingly remembered by her grandson Rick (Lori) Hazelton and their children Brent, Julie and Lyla, granddaughter Brenda (Ron) Taschuk, granddaughter Sandra Patterson and her son TJ Howard; her granddaughter Jane (Gary) Edwards, granddaughter Cindy (Ward Hum) and their son Tyler (Sophie and Raiden); and her granddaughter Pat Hazelton (Derrick Gilmore), granddaughter Christine Hazelton, granddaughter Tania (John) Swan and their children Jeremy and Jordyn, grandson Troy (Lee) Powlan and family, and grandson Chad Hazelton. Josie is also survived by her 98-year-old sister Ann Maridian and will be missed by numerous special nieces and nephews.
Josie was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Hazelton; her parents Steve and Rose Cooper; her grandparents Joseph and Marie Kuntz; her sisters Theresa Cooper and Mary (Carl) Stebinuk; brother George Cooper; grandson Tom Patterson and son-in-law Herald Legge.
A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Josie’s family would like to pass on special thanks to Father Joe, who was important to her because he personally visited with her outside of the Church; he was a cherished confident and close friend. Special thanks also go to Home Care Aid Rose James, who lovingly cared for Josie at her home in Alex Walker Towers for many years when the family was unable to do so. Finally, special thanks to the nurses, LPNs, health care aids and staff of the Southwood Nursing Home Parkland Unit for their loving care of Josie these past 15 months.
