Mr. Keith Sifton Knox, our father and grandfather, passed away on December 8, 2020 at Chinook Care Centre in Calgary, Alberta. He was 98 years old. Keith was born in Perth, Ontario in 1922, one of five children born to Grace and Alex Knox (CPR Station Manager). Keith was predeceased by his wife, Joan Esther in February 2019.
In WWII, Keith served as a radar technician in England and Gibraltar with the RAF 202 squadron. After the war Keith completed his post-secondary education with a B.Sc. in Engineering from Queen’s University, and a Master of Science in Geological Engineering from Western University. He was the first recipient of a M.Sc. in Geological Engineering.
In the late 1940’s, after the war, Keith worked during a summer for the Geological Survey of Canada in the North West Territories, travelling by canoe and mapping geological formations along the route. During another summer break from University, Keith worked in Chilliwack, B.C. as an officer cadet, doing practical training for the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering. It was here in B.C. that Keith met his future wife, Joan. They were married in Vancouver on September 22, 1950 and returned to Ontario where Keith completed his M.Sc.
Keith spent the majority of his Geology career working for Gulf Canada, formerly British American, in Saskatchewan and Alberta. He retired early in 1983. He and Joan enjoyed travelling, curling and golfing. Garage sales were where Keith was always on the lookout for a bargain that he could use himself or pass along to his children and grandchildren. Keith liked to tell stories and one of his favourites was "Falling Rocks”, which was retold at many family dinners and especially if one of his children had brought along date.
Keith will be dearly missed by his family. He is survived by his three children: Alex Knox (Pamela) of Calgary, Laraine Butt (Gordon) of Lethbridge, and Murray Knox (Kym) of Nanton. Also five grandchildren: James Seller of Calgary, Alisha Rahn (Miikeal) of Lethbridge, Chanel Watson (Tim) of Florida, Teal Knox of Calgary and Lena Knox of Victoria, BC. Keith was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, all boys: Jonathyn and Nathan Watson of Florida, Logan and Connor Rahn of Lethbridge. Plus many nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the many nurses and personal attendants, who looked after Keith for the seven years he was a resident of Chinook Park, in the Chinook Care Centre, We were told often that he was a pleasure to care for and many times would make them laugh.
