Laurenz was born in Vorderweißenbach, Austria in 1927. He was one of twelve children, and the last surviving sibling. At just 14 years old, he left home, beginning a life marked by courage and independence. In 1951, he immigrated to Canada, leaving his entire family behind in Austria in search of new opportunities.
Laurenz experienced deep loss with the passing of his first wife, Veronica, and his stepson Adolf. Years later, he found love and companionship with Melanie Schwarz, the love of his life, and embraced a new chapter alongside the large Schwarz family.
One of the most meaningful moments of his life was marrying his beloved Melanie in 1999. She predeceased him in October 2011. Through their union, Laurenz became a stepfather to Wolfgang (deceased), Karl, George (deceased), Siegfried (Teresa), and Lorraine (Michael – deceased); and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
Laurenz shared a particularly deep and special bond with his grandchildren, Kurtlin, Madeline and Gabriel. He surrounded them with love, a love that they all reciprocated. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. His family will forever cherish his stories, his love for a good cup of coffee and a hockey game, his remarkable memory, and the many adventures they shared together.
“Kuscheln, dear Laurenz – Kuscheln.”
