July 9, 1959 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
August 25, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
With deep sadness we announce the passing of Leslie (Les) Bodnarchuk. To the last minute of his life he was smiling, laughing, joking and still loving life with his wife Jean “my rock and pillow of emotional support,” his children Adam (Clare), Amy (Levon) and Kaylee (Michel), grandchildren Jed, Kyah and Samuel, mom Edith, brother Dale (Cathy), stepchildren Brett (Dianna), Anita (Brian), grandchildren Zach and Tyler, and many other relatives and friends. Les was predeceased by his father Walter. Nothing made him happier than to share a beer, share his insights on beer making, and “cheers” with his loved ones.
Les was a “Red Green” of sorts who could find a solution to any problem and was generous of his time to anyone who needed it. He will be sorely missed by all those who called, face timed, texted or visited looking for his expertise on something that needed fixing.
Les kept himself in top physical shape through training for and participating in Iron Man competitions and marathons around the world, often with family or friends. In his final months, he was captain for the team “Making Lemonade” in Betty’s Run for ALS, raising money for the ALS Society of Alberta. He was handed some lemons in life and he chose to make lemonade, allowing him to view his daily life through a positive lens.
Special thanks to Dr. Lawrence Korngut and all the staff at the ALS Clinic, ALS Society of Alberta, and AHS Home Care staff for their kind and exceptional care. These groups were a part of the large village to provide the support and equipment required for Les to make the most of each day.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome memorial donations to
